How do you feel about blogs? I don't know if I'm entirely comfortable with this but I've got to get some thoughts down.
Here's an old post from December that I never published. I was surprised to find it, and I had forgotten about it.
I don't know why, but my two-year-old seems to pick the worst time to
pitch a fit about getting in the car. This morning when it was negative
10 degrees, she was crying and screaming and refusing to get in her car
seat. The reason for her fit was that she dropped a tiny red rubber band
that she had found in Julian's classroom on the floor when we dropped
him off, and I wouldn't let her go pick it up from the ground. Ahhh!
My five-year old son told me that we have to get out our Elf on the Shelf.
Ugh. Let me say that I would never have bought this thing myself. It was a gift from Grandma. Do you know about this phenomenon? A little retro-looking elf comes packaged with a storybook about him which lays out his mythology and gives a list of rules for his operation. You read the story to your child and introduce the elf who must be named. Then the magic begins. You're
supposed to put this elf out and then every night move it to a new spot
in the house. The elf's job is to watch the kids and make sure they're
being good, giving a report to Santa. God help me, I just don't have the
energy. But I'll probably end up doing it :)
One more Christmas tidbit: Claire can't wrap her brain around
the name of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." She calls him "Reindeer
the Nose!"
